Terms of Service

Last updated: May 23, 2026 (rev. 2)

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using any application or game developed by Digital Horizon Software LLC ("we", "us", or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use our products.

These Terms apply to the following products:

  • Open Verdict — an AI-driven detective fiction mobile game
  • Station Arkhon — a mobile game
  • Laneworks — a mobile game
  • SC Ship Database — a mobile application
  • FinanceDash — a personal finance management application (desktop and web)

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use our products. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

3. User Accounts

Station Arkhon and Laneworks offer optional sign-in via Google. By signing in, you allow us to access your display name, email address, and profile photo through Firebase Authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

SC Ship Database does not require or support user accounts.

FinanceDash does not require a user account for basic features. Pro features require a license key linked to a paid subscription managed through Stripe. You are responsible for keeping your license key confidential. License keys may be activated on up to two (2) devices.

Open Verdict creates an anonymous device-linked guest account automatically on first launch so you can begin playing. To access most of the game beyond the tutorial, you must sign in using Apple Sign In, Google Sign-In, or email and password. Your signed-in identity is used to associate game progress with your account across devices. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

4. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

Station Arkhon and Laneworks may offer in-app purchases processed through Google Play Billing. All purchases are subject to Google Play's terms and refund policies. We do not store your payment information. All sales are final unless otherwise required by applicable law or Google Play's refund policy.

FinanceDash Pro is a paid subscription billed monthly or annually through Stripe. You may cancel your subscription at any time; access continues through the end of your current billing period. Refunds are handled in accordance with applicable law. We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with 30 days' notice.

Open Verdict is a free-to-play app available at no cost through the Apple App Store and Google Play. New accounts receive immediate access to a free-tier catalog of fully-replayable LLM-free scripted cases (currently ten cases). The Bureau Files catalog of fully-AI-powered cases and other features are available through in-app purchases (processed through Apple App Store, Google Play Billing, and RevenueCat):

  • Remove Ads — a one-time, non-consumable purchase that permanently disables interstitial advertisements between case sessions. The Remove Ads entitlement is also granted automatically, as a side-effect, by any other paid Open Verdict purchase listed below.
  • Starter Pack & Detective's Edition — one-time purchases that unlock the Bureau Files catalog of AI-powered cases and add to a per-account fair-use budget for AI compute (described below). The Detective's Edition is the larger one-time bundle.
  • Bureau Premium — an auto-renewing monthly subscription that unlocks the Bureau Files catalog and adds to your fair-use AI compute budget each cycle. Your subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage and cancel your subscription through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.
  • Bureau Insider (BYOK) Pass — a one-time, non-consumable purchase that unlocks an alternative gameplay mode in which you supply your own Anthropic API key for AI dialogue. Players who hold the Bureau Insider pass are not subject to the shared fair-use AI compute budget; they are subject only to a separate user-configurable per-day spend safety cap described below. The Bureau Insider pass is a purchased feature unlock, not a substitute for or means of circumventing standard in-app purchases — Apple App Store and Google Play Billing remain the exclusive payment processors for all paid features. The Anthropic API key supplied by Bureau Insider players is stored locally on the player's device and is not transmitted to us for storage; players are responsible for managing their own Anthropic account billing and complying with Anthropic's terms of service.

Fair-use AI compute budget. Because the in-game AI dialogue in the Bureau Files catalog is generated in real time by a third-party large-language-model service (Anthropic), every in-game interaction has a marginal compute cost. Each paid purchase (Starter Pack, Detective's Edition, Bureau Premium renewal) contributes an amount to a shared fair-use compute budget. The amount contributed by each purchase corresponds to the developer's net proceeds from that purchase after platform fees. When the budget is exhausted, additional AI interactions in Bureau Files cases are paused until you make another purchase or renewal that adds to the budget. The free-tier scripted cases do not consume this budget — they do not invoke any AI at play time. This budget operates as a transparent safety mechanism ensuring that compute cost cannot exceed what you have paid for. The budget may be inspected in-app and never resets except via additional purchases (it does not expire). BYOK users have their own per-day safety cap and do not use this shared budget.

EU/UK/EEA 14-Day Right of Withdrawal. Under EU Directive 2011/83/EU and analogous UK consumer protection law, consumers in the EU, UK, and EEA have a 14-day right of withdrawal for distance purchases of digital goods. By initiating any in-app purchase in Open Verdict, FinanceDash Pro, or any other Digital Horizon Software product where the purchased digital content is made available to you immediately upon purchase, you expressly consent to the immediate delivery of the digital content and you acknowledge that you waive your 14-day right of withdrawal once the content has been delivered, as permitted under Article 16(m) of the Directive. Refunds for completed purchases remain subject to the platform store's refund policies (Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe) as described elsewhere in these Terms; we do not separately process refunds.

All Open Verdict purchases are subject to the platform store's terms and refund policies. We do not process or store payment information. Once consumed (in the case of Assignments), purchases cannot be reversed except through the platform store's refund process.

5. Game Data & Cloud Saves

Station Arkhon stores game progress in the cloud via Google Firebase Firestore, linked to your account. We make reasonable efforts to maintain this data, but we do not guarantee that save data will be preserved indefinitely.

Laneworks stores game progress locally on your device. We are not responsible for data lost due to device failure, app uninstallation, or other local data loss.

SC Ship Database stores data locally on your device only.

FinanceDash Desktop stores all financial data locally on your device in an encrypted format. FinanceDash Web stores data in your browser's local storage. In both cases, you are solely responsible for backing up your data. We do not have access to your financial data and cannot recover it if lost.

Open Verdict stores account data, detective profile, game progress, accusation history, and active case session state on our backend (Railway with PostgreSQL) and links it to your signed-in account. We make reasonable efforts to maintain this data, but we do not guarantee that save data will be preserved indefinitely. We may purge old case session messages on a rolling basis. We are not responsible for data lost due to service interruption, account deletion, or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

6. FinanceDash — Financial Data Disclaimer

FinanceDash is a personal finance management tool designed to help you organize and track your finances. It is not a financial advisor, tax advisor, or accounting service. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • FinanceDash does not provide investment advice, tax guidance, or financial planning recommendations.
  • Any data, calculations, charts, categorizations, or summaries displayed by FinanceDash are for informational purposes only and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
  • You should not rely solely on FinanceDash for financial decisions. Always consult a qualified financial professional for advice specific to your situation.
  • Bank account balances, transaction data, and other information retrieved through Plaid or Akoya may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. We are not responsible for the accuracy of data provided by third-party financial data services.
  • AI-powered features (such as transaction categorization and financial insights) are generated by third-party AI models and may produce incorrect, misleading, or incomplete results. AI output should not be treated as professional financial advice.

Regulatory Notice: Digital Horizon Software LLC is not registered as an investment advisor, broker-dealer, or financial planner with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), or any state securities regulatory authority. FinanceDash does not provide personalized investment recommendations or manage investment portfolios. The display of investment holdings and account balances is for informational and organizational purposes only.

7. Open Verdict — Fictional Content & AI Disclaimer

Open Verdict is an interactive detective fiction game. It is a work of fiction, intended solely for entertainment, and is not a source of legal, medical, financial, factual, or any other advice. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • All characters, crimes, events, and storylines depicted in Open Verdict are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, real events, real organizations, or real locations is coincidental and unintended. The game's content is not a representation of, nor a commentary on, any real-world person, event, or organization.
  • Significant portions of the game's content are generated by artificial intelligence. The in-game characters you interact with — including each suspect, Captain Reeves, the Coroner, and the Forensics specialist — are implemented as AI agents with role-locked personas and case-specific knowledge, running on Anthropic's Claude. Some character portraits and evidence imagery are also produced by third-party AI image-generation models. AI-generated content (dialogue and imagery) may be inaccurate, surprising, unexpected, internally inconsistent, or may repeat patterns; it may at times produce content that does not align with the authored case design.
  • The game incorporates content filtering and AI safety mechanisms, but no such system is perfect. We do not guarantee that AI-generated dialogue or imagery will always be appropriate, accurate, or in keeping with the intended tone of the game.
  • Nothing said by an in-game character — including the Captain, the Coroner, the Forensics specialist, suspects, witnesses, or any other AI-generated voice — constitutes legal, medical, psychological, financial, investigatory, or professional advice of any kind. Statements by in-game characters are scripted or AI-generated fiction and must not be relied upon for any real-world purpose.
  • The game depicts fictional crimes (including violent crimes) for narrative purposes. We make no claim that the depictions are accurate to real criminal investigation procedures, forensic science, legal process, or police practice in any jurisdiction.
  • The game may reference real historical eras, settings, or general cultural contexts; these references are for atmospheric and entertainment purposes and are not claims of historical accuracy.
  • Where the Bureau Insider (BYOK) pass is used and you supply your own Anthropic API key, your Anthropic account is what pays for the LLM tokens consumed by your gameplay. By configuring an Anthropic API key in Open Verdict, you grant Digital Horizon Software a limited, transient, request-scoped right to receive and use that key solely for the purpose of relaying your in-game LLM requests to Anthropic on your behalf. We do not store the key on our servers in any form (see our Privacy Policy for the full handling description). Your use of Anthropic's API in this mode is also governed by Anthropic's own terms of service, and you are responsible for keeping your Anthropic API key secure, complying with Anthropic's usage policies, and managing any spend or quota on your Anthropic account. As a safety measure, we apply a rolling 24-hour cap on the cumulative Anthropic spend that can be billed to your key through Open Verdict. The cap is configurable in-app from a fixed set of options (currently $5, $10, $20, or $50 per day; the default for new users is $10; the maximum permitted value is $50 and cannot be exceeded or disabled). For context, a typical case consumes approximately $0.20 to $0.60 of Anthropic spend on Claude Sonnet 4.6, so the default $10 cap accommodates roughly 15 to 50 cases per 24-hour window. When the cap is reached, in-game LLM requests will be paused until the window resets. This cap is a protective measure for your benefit and does not constitute a warranty against any charges that may be incurred on your Anthropic account; you remain responsible for monitoring your Anthropic account, configuring any additional spend limits in the Anthropic console, and reviewing your Anthropic billing statements.

AI Disclosure (jurisdictional notice): In compliance with applicable laws and platform policies, we disclose that Open Verdict makes substantial use of generative artificial intelligence to produce in-game content. This disclosure is also presented to players at first launch.

8. Third-Party Financial Services

FinanceDash Pro integrates with third-party financial data providers including Plaid and Akoya. By connecting a bank account, you authorize these services to access your financial data on your behalf. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for any actions taken by these third-party providers, including service outages, data inaccuracies, or changes to their terms.

If you enable AI-powered features, you are responsible for providing your own API key and complying with the terms of service of your chosen AI provider. We do not control, endorse, or guarantee the output of any third-party AI model.

15. Third-Party Services

Our products integrate with third-party services including Google Firebase, Google AdMob, Google Play Billing, Google Play Games Services, Apple App Store, RevenueCat, Anthropic, Railway, and Cloudflare. We do not warrant that our products will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

With respect to FinanceDash specifically: We make no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any financial data displayed, including bank account balances, transaction histories, investment holdings, or AI-generated insights. FinanceDash is not a substitute for professional financial, tax, or legal advice.

17. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Digital Horizon Software LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use our products, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or interruption of service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of our products after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

20. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

21. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of our products shall be resolved through binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. You and Digital Horizon Software LLC each waive the right to a jury trial and the right to participate in a class action, class arbitration, or representative proceeding.

The arbitration shall take place in the State of North Carolina or, at your election, may be conducted remotely. The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Exceptions: Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court for disputes within the court's jurisdictional limits. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief in court for matters related to intellectual property or unauthorized access.

Opt-Out: You may opt out of this arbitration provision by sending written notice to admin@digitalhorizonsoftware.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina.

22. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Digital Horizon Software LLC, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising out of or related to your use of our products, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

23. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions.

24. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Digital Horizon Software LLC regarding your use of our products and supersede any prior agreements.
